Notes

  • The party started the session by dropping off the mail they had brought down from Fairhaven to the local post office in Sunstone Outpost
  • Afterward, they went to the Sunstone Motel, where they met Fese Cheondue, the motel owner
    • Fese suggested the party visit the arcane library
  • The night was uneventful, and in the morning the party had breakfast at the motel
  • At the Wizard tower, a librarian named Darian “Chikka” Mitchell retrieved books for the party about the Sunstone, primordial beings, and Coatles
  • Before reading these books, Geir inquired about copying magic spell scrolls
    • Darian told Geir that he could copy a scroll as long as he paid with knowledge of some sort
      • Abarrane offered to teach him about elven trances
  • Kronq asked if they had anything regarding Giant magic runes
    • Darian directed him to a researcher named Thaddeus Brightwell on the third floor
    • Thaddeus was researching runes Giants placed on their livestock to make them more resilient or effective
    • He offered to pay Kronq with a runic tattoo in exchange for getting the last ingredient he was missing: crushed Giant’s bones
    • Only one runic tattoo may be used
    • He will sell his tattoos to anyone else who wants one once he has the crushed bones
    • On the way out, Abarrane offered to calligraph Thaddeus’ name, leaving it on a piece of paper with him
  • Finally returning to their requested books, the party began to read through them, looking for useful information
    • First, they learned about the Sunstone
      • The distance between the material plane and the fugue plane is narrower around the Sunstone, thus making it easier to communicate with the dead in its presence
      • It used to be bright like the sun, but turned blue about a month ago
    • Next, they learned about primordial beings
      • Xuitke was a benevolent primordial, who acted as a spy for the gods in a battle between certain Primordials and the gods/devils
    • Finally, they learned about a totem which provided long life to those who worshiped it
      • On the walls around the totem were depictions of Coatles
      • Despite many people trying to steal this totem to get the long life it provided for themselves, nobody had ever managed to steal it
  • The party then went off to the Sunstone, to experience it themselves
    • At first they had little success connecting with lost loved ones on the other side
    • A spirit guide walked up and offered his services, to guide them to their destination for a mere five gold pieces
    • Abarrane paid his fee, and with his help was able to find her grandma
      • Her grandma mentioned that the sunstone had gotten stronger recently
      • Abarrane mentioned people were worried about her ability to eldritch blast, and what the origin of her powers may be
      • Her grandma shared their concerns, stating that only does not simple start blasting
      • Abarrane asked if her grandma knew anything about coattles. She replied that they serve as protectors, and if the crystal in Waverly killed one, that cannot possibly be a good sign
  • Next, the party paid a visit to Magnus Mystique’s Magic Emporium
    • Geir sold the personal shield they got from Sp’op for an antimagic box and 610 gold
      • Abarrane placed the chunk from the Waverly crystal in the antimagic box
    • He also purchased an arcane grimoire for 150 gold
    • When asking about a bag of holding, Magnus was confused what that was
      • Magnus insisted that moving material across planes was quite impossible
  • Confused by Magnus’ statements about travel between planes, Geir went to the library to research about the planes
    • The author of the book clearly understood the structure of the planes, but said material travel between planes was impossible
    • The author was Soren Talisman, an elf
  • While Geir was doing his reading, Abarrane went to the market and bought perfume, evil repelling salt, and hair oil
  • Before sleeping for the night, Geir asked a local about the crack they had seen, and learned that it was a scorpion den, and that the adventurer’s guild had a job posting to clear it out for 200 gold
  • The next day, the party descended into the scorpion den
    • After killing many small scorpions, and two giant scorpions, they found a curious structure
    • There was a central orb, and several instruments, none of which made any sound when played
    • Around the base of the orb was the inscription “If you immediately know the candle-light is fire, then the meal was cooked a long time ago”
    • Abarrane placed her palm on the orb and noticed it vibrated when she spoke
    • After a little experimentation, Geir prompted the party to join him in humming around the orb
      • Auro loudly hummed a familiar tune, which caused the orb to levitate and reveal a hidden door
    • Beyond the door was an old sorcerer named Persophocles Theophanos, who seemed to have been trapped in time
